History of Encino
The name Encino comes from the Spanish term for evergreen or holm oak. The area was named after the Rancho Los Encinos which was known as the Ranch of Evergreens. This area was a small parcel of land that was given to Mission Indians by the Mexican government in the beginning of 1834. The Encino area was established later on in 1845 after the secularization of the California missions.
