History of Granada Hills
Granada Hills is an area in Los Angeles where the first San Fernando Valley oil well was drilled back in 1916. The oil well was located at the northern tip of Zelzah Avenue. There area of Granada Hills was originally founded in 1927 and was known as Granada but the addition of the term “Hills” was added to the name about 15 years after the original founding.
Granada Hills was a dairy farm and orchard that was known to locals as the Sunshine Ranch. Various crops were harvested from the ranch including apricots and oranges as well as beans and walnuts. Today, the Granada Hills area still has various citrus groves that were from the early years when the neighborhood was originally founded. Orange trees as well as lemon trees and grapefruit trees continue to remain in many residential yards today.
Description of Granada Hills
Granada Hills is located in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles. The neighborhood is a bit north of North Hills and Northridge and to the west of Mission Hills. Granada Hills is located to the east of Porter Ranch. The neighborhood has various thoroughfares such as Balboa Boulevard and Woodley Avenue as well as Rinaldi Street and Devonshire Street which also run through surrounding neighborhoods bringing traffic into and out of Granada Hills. The neighborhood is accessible via the Ronald Reagan Freeway as well as the San Diego Freeway and the Golden State Freeway also known as Interstate 5.

For nightlife, various bars such as Oh Gradys and Tender Glow offer a nice place for inexpensive drinks. Tender Glow looks similar to another bar located in Granada Hills called Sugar Suite which was actually built by the same builder hence the similarities. There's also a great pizza parlor right next door to Tender Glow so you can enjoy a slice of pizza and then make your rounds to the bar for the finishing touch. |
